If that's the case, then that's too bad! There are no take backs and no redoes, so you're stuck with what you have! Maybe you should have been more careful about how you worded that wish...

Oh well. There's no use in dwelling on it. You're a magi now, and that means adjusting to a whole new lifestyle! Maybe one of the townspeople can help you out.

Only... they're acting a bit strangely, aren't they? They're all too happy to show you around, but there's something unsettling about the way they're behaving. Almost cheerfully dissonant. Any questions about the history of the town are met with blank stares and brief silence, before they plaster a smile onto their faces and change the subject. Any attempts to tell them about your duties as a magi or anything else that relates to the magical will get similar reactions.

Isn't there anyone normal here that you can talk to at all?

Home Improvement: The houses that the magi are given access to really are something, aren't they? There's almost no limit to what they can do! Why don't you create the house of your dreams, or maybe recreate and relive your favorite childhood scenes? Invite some spectators over to marvel!

Because everyone I've talked to so far has been...a uniform brand of peculiar. You're the first I've met that hasn't forced a subject change at the mere mention of our circumstances.

...I wasn't necessarily planning to talk much anyway, so there's no reason for me to change the subject to anything else. I don't really know much either.

I wish I could say I was surprised...that creature wasn't particularly forthcoming with details. It's unsurprising that we're in the same boat.

I believe...many things are possible, some of which seem like they shouldn't be. For example, bringing me here, a place seemingly so far out of reach of the Zohar that I can't even feel the waves that have been a part of my consciousness since I was born.

Well, Kyuubey did say he expected us to protect this city. That does imply there's things to protect it against, doesn't it?

But as long as the threat here isn't as severe as the Gnosis, I think I'll be able to manage well enough.

I haven't seen any reason or anything to protect this city from in the first place. It really sounds like a pain in the ass.

[ Of course, he wasn't listening too hard. Fight against something, become a magi or something, something something wish, something gem. ]

I'd be more than a little concerned if we were under constant, blatant siege. Such a situation is...difficult, to say the least. I suspect we'll find out who or what our enemies are soon enough.

[ He'd be happier never meeting them, actually. He has a house to himself with a cat, and he doesn't feel like he has to eat much. If he wanted to, he could just stay in his house until the end of time now. ]

I'd be fine not finding out. If they never show up, that means we learned magic for nothing.

But doesn't that seem like it would be a waste? If we were given magic and then never had a reason to use it?

That's fine with me. Giving magic to someone like me is a waste anyway, especially if they expect us to fight and protect a bunch of people I don't know.

Really? Can you be certain you won't know any of them by the time they end up in danger?

Not to mention, it sounds like this duty is our payment for having our wishes granted.

....I mean... you just said yourself that most of them don't understand what you're talking about.

[ The townspeople don't, at least. Ichimatsu shifts uncomfortably where he stands, trying not to believe that any of the other people to get their wish granted would need HIS help. ]
