MAY TEST DRIVE MEME.
![]() Prompts Arrival: So you've just arrived in Nyoi-Cho. Congratulations! You must be so excited about having your wish granted. Or maybe you're upset that the result wasn't quite what you expected? If that's the case, then that's too bad! There are no take backs and no redoes, so you're stuck with what you have! Maybe you should have been more careful about how you worded that wish... Oh well. There's no use in dwelling on it. You're a magi now, and that means adjusting to a whole new lifestyle! Maybe one of the townspeople can help you out. Only... they're acting a bit strangely, aren't they? They're all too happy to show you around, but there's something unsettling about the way they're behaving. Almost cheerfully dissonant. Any questions about the history of the town are met with blank stares and brief silence, before they plaster a smile onto their faces and change the subject. Any attempts to tell them about your duties as a magi or anything else that relates to the magical will get similar reactions. Isn't there anyone normal here that you can talk to at all? Home Improvement: The houses that the magi are given access to really are something, aren't they? There's almost no limit to what they can do! Why don't you create the house of your dreams, or maybe recreate and relive your favorite childhood scenes? Invite some spectators over to marvel! A Corrupted Soul Gem: You neglected to take care of your soul gem, and now you don't feel quite yourself anymore. You feel like you're losing your sense of self - all you seem to be able to focus on is your old regrets and past failures. What's happening to you? A Day in the Life: Everyday hero by day, magician by night! You've got a busy day ahead of you and no time to waste! Maybe it's school, or maybe it's work, maybe it's both! Being magical doesn't make you exempt from paying those shopping bills! May Day: Uh-oh. This magical girl stuff looked easier on TV. You're in some serious trouble! Or maybe you see someone else who is! It's time to pull up your socks and show them what you have. Be the hero you've always wanted to be, or give in and be that damsel in distress. There's no shame in needing a little help now and then. A Successful Mission: Congratulations! You met up with your first Nightmare, and you fought valiantly. You even mastered that tricky power of yours! As if in response to your masterful victory, you feel as though you've unlocked a new power. What sort of power did you get? Is it a useful one, or is it not so useful? Maybe you've mastered it beautifully, and now you're showing off to all of your friends. Maybe you're having a hard time keeping it under wraps, and now you're wreaking havoc across the town without meaning to! A Dreadful Nightmare: You had an absolutely horrid day. As you drift off to sleep, your mind dwells on all the injustices you've had to endure. In response, your bed swallows you up, and your room shifts into a horrific Nightmarescape. What sort of Nightmare are you? What kind of Nightmarescape do you create? Hopefully your fellow magi can stop you before you cause too much damage! Wildcard: Feel free to use any information from the FAQ or the World Info page to make your own prompt! |
ichimatsu matsuno | osomatsu-san
[ Really, it took him a while to get over thinking that the wish would be a pile of shit. Who would grant someone like him the ability to have anything he wants? But, getting a good look at (and getting to pet) Kyuubey put him at ease. Yeah, if something were to give him a wish, it'd be something that looked kind of like a cat. So, after mulling about it for a while, thinking over the whole having to be a magi or whatever it was, he made his wish.
Actually. Can you make me a cat?
...and, it didn't feel much like it worked. He didn't feel any differently. In fact, he felt sick-- so sick, that... yup, that's him depositing his lunch into a nearby trashcan. Once he's done with that fun little thing, he stands around, looking intently at his hands. He didn't feel fur, and he didn't see paws or anything sprout up. Sucking his teeth, he starts walking. Of course it was bullshit.
Ichimatsu looks vaguely upset (though really, that's his default state) and has at least managed to find a cat to play with as he ignores the locals that bump into him. He's idly petting a white-furred cat, that seems to be quite attached to him already.
...was this cat always in this town? ]
May Day
[ So, he has a pet now. Doesn't really change the fact that he's in a new weird place away from his equally shitty brothers. Magi? Saving this town? Fighting Nightmares? Like hell he'd actually do anything like that. He was stuck in Nyoi-cho for the rest of his life with a cat, and could think up food for both of them to keep himself alive, and he didn't have to actually leave his house.
Until tonight, where his little buddy abruptly decided to leave the house, leaping out of an open window and running down the street. As much of a pain as it was, he went off to follow them. In doing so, he unwittingly found himself in a Nightmarescape. Untransformed, still wearing his purple hoodie and glancing around, he catches the cat and holds them in his arms... before glancing around. ]
...Huh. [ Well, he appears to have been spotted by no more than three familiars. ]
Oh. I'm gonna die. [ WHY IS HE SO UNCONCERNED ABOUT THIS?? ]

Jin Uzuki | Xenosaga (AU)
[Honestly, he should have expected his loophole wouldn't work quite as he'd hoped. That would have been too easy. But Kyuubey's compromise was...acceptable, if not ideal. Besides, Jin thought at first glance, this new town he'd been brought to protect seemed to suit him well. Small, quiet...the sort of place he preferred to spend his time when he wasn't on some form of spacecraft.
That idea didn't last long. The more he talked to the locals, the more unsettled he got. Something about them just seemed...not right. They felt fake, if he was honest with himself. Especially in their reactions to simple questions about their own home town. When he finally set eyes on someone who seemed out of place, it was a relief.]
Excuse me, are you...well, I hesitate to say normal, it's such a relative word, but are you different from these townsfolk?
[Home Improvement]
[The ability to create any house he wanted, just by thinking about it. The appeal was obvious.
Those passing by a particular house in the Magi district would hear the sound of running water and a quiet, rhythmic wooden clanking. If they peeked in through the open door, they'd find a small zen garden, about the size of an average house's yard, with a waterfall descending from the top of a bamboo fence into a koi filled pond, filling up a wooden tube near the bottom that emptied itself with a quiet thunking noise every few seconds. If a visitor paid attention, they would also notice a mild incense filling the air.
The house itself was modest and designed after a traditional Japanese home, with a small porch to watch the garden from. There the owner sat, a peaceful expression on his face as he closed his eyes and listened to the calming sounds around him. But still, there was something about him that seemed lonely, more than relaxed...]

Carol Malus Dienheim | Symphogear
[ Tell me. Who am I? It was a simple wish, for someone who had absolutely nothing left, not even the memory of what had been lost, there was nothing else that could be asked.
In hindsight, perhaps she should not have wished for anything. She had not been prepared for what she got. Hundreds of years of memories instantly flooded Carol's mind, few of them pleasant. Her father burning at the stake, and her mad quest to fulfil his dying wish: To learn of the world. For an alchemist like her, driven to the edge by despair, it seemed only natural that this meant reducing everything to its constituent elements.
An alchemist like her, who by the law of equivalent exchange, burnt her memories for power, so that by the end she was fighting without even remembering what she fought for.
And it has all come back. Every loss, every betrayal, every bit of her maddened passion.
Carol Malus Dienheim wipes away her tears. They don't stop, but neither does she. All she allows herself is a quiet sob, before pushing forth. She has to figure out what this new place is. ]
May Day
[ Fighting with magic comes naturally to Carol. The differences between a magi and the alchemy she was used to are minor at best. So it's easy for her to get into the groove of hunting, and she fights like a woman possessed. Perhaps it's because her soul gem darkened faster than most.
Either way, she's here to killsteal, a jet of fire blasting over whoever's in her way and scorching a Nightmare to ash. Sorta ash. ]
You should move. [ Perhaps she should say that before shooting? ]
Nightmare
[ It's always the same nightmare. Not every bad dream needs intervention, but all of them are the same in essence. Fire that runs through the streets, shadowy figures whose only notable features were their leering eyes and jeering.
Burn the witch. Burn the witch. Burn the witch.
It's not Carol that is burning, but a man much older than she looks. He seems content, but it's impossible to tell his expression through the flames. The Nightmare Formerly Known As Carol roars.
A green lion, more ceramic doll than flesh, with a glowing sphere of light in its jaws rushes through the Nightmarescape. Acid trails in its wake, the sickly green fluid viciously melting everything away.
Its rage is pure, its purpose clear. And why wouldn't it be? Carol was no different when awake. ]

Apple White | Ever After High | Reserved
"I wish to become a great queen."
[Apple is sure she did the right thing. Didn't she? So maybe this is a little bit off-script, but wish-granting talking animals show up in stories all the time. This way, Raven doesn't have to be the villain in Apple's story - nobody does. And if someone tries, now Apple will have the magic to-
But it's hard to stay hexcited now, after that weird light surrounded her and spelleported her to...wherever this is. Nothing creepy or evil, just a pleasant little village, but it's no village Apple has ever visited or even read about. That magical creature hadn't said anything about another world.
And she's never been to another world where asking how to get back to Ever After High - or Wonderland, or the Land of Giants, or anywhere - just got her that blank stare.
How can she get her story on track back in her world, if no one will even tell her what this one is?]
May Day
[Apple's good at speeches, and charming people, and Chemythstry - at all her classes, really - but one thing she's not is a fighter. The faculty never signed her up for Heroics 101; that was Daring's thing, and she was more than happy to leave it to him.
She made a deal, though, and a good Royal is true to her word. So here she is in the fray with the other Magi, trying to keep an eye on what's around her as she draws her weapon. The scepter she's holding extends long enough to serve as a mace, and the golden gleam off its surface reminds her of why she made this wish in the first place.
...and that moment of distraction is all the Nightmare needs to level a blow right at her.
Maybe someone needs to help this damsel through her first battle.]

Jean Pierre Polnareff | JJBA (Stardust Crusaders)
[It's worth it.
That's what Polnareff tells himself, anyway, as he heads into town proper. Arms crossed behind his head, he focuses his gaze forward, his mind whirling despite his best efforts. A lifetime contract still weighs heavily on his mind, but it isn't as if there's any turning back now.
Besides: it isn't as if he was going to do anything else with his life. He'd spent years training to defeat Geil; why let all that go to waste? At least this way he'll be doing the world (a world) some good. Like a hero, and hey, hadn't he always wanted to be a knight?
And no matter what . . . it's worth it. It's all worth it a thousand times over if all the others are alive. Kakyoin, Sherry, Abdul-- so long as they're safe and well, he'll happily lose his soul.
Or, well. Not lose his soul. It's in his pocket, after all, a golden gem set into a ring.
Despite his somewhat gloomy thoughts, Polnareff is cheerful as he encounters people. Where are you without a sunny disposition, right? Not all of us can be moody shonen protagonists. There's a broadsword strapped to his back, which is a pretty big clue as to what his weapon manifested as-- but there's more to that than meets the eye.]
Home Improvement:
[He'd made his home a mansion at first, because why not? A grand palace, with marble floors and high windows, looking more like Versailles than any little house ought to. It didn't matter that the outside stayed the same-- the interior was grand, and that was all that mattered.
But that had grown old quickly. After two weeks, he'd changed things: made the inside look like a cottage. Oh, it had all the modern amenities, of course, and he'd kept those large windows-- but the interior is that of a cottage, small and cozy, with wooden floors and white-washed walls.
And sometimes there's a girl there, with black hair and freckles and a yellow dress. Sometimes she's a child and sometimes she's sixteen, but she's always smiling.]
open;
[Anything goes! Hit me up with whatever you got.]

Mister Torgue | Borderlands
[...No, guys, you're not imagining the seven foot tall man, screaming at the top of his lungs in the center square, turning on every water fountain in the area by slamming the knob down with his fists. With absolutely none of the town people paying any mind to the fact that he's even there.
It's an amazing sight, honestly.]
HOLY SH*T!! SERIOUSLY!? I'M IN A PLACE WITH RUNNING WATER!? WHAT THE F*CK*!? THAT SUSPICIOUS WHITE RAT THAT PROBABLY ISN'T F*CKING WITH ME, DIDN'T SAY SH*T ABOUT RUNNING WATER WHEN HE SAID HE'D GRANT MY WISH!!
...
[SLAM FIST. TAKE SIP. Fresh as spring~!]
THIS IS AUTOMATICALLY AMAZING AND WORTH EVERYTHING I'M PROBABLY GOING TO END UP GOING THROUGH!! WOOOOOO!!
A Day In The Life
[FIRST THINGS FIRST. He finds a cell phone - really the chosest thing to an ECHO device he can fathom - and starts shouting into it. Never mind that he yanked it from a townsperson. They don't care. They just smile creepily at him.]
ALL RIGHT, FELLOW...UH, WHATEVER THE F*CK WE WANNA CALL OURSELVES! I HAVE TAKEN A LOOK AT YOUR ARMORY, AND AS THE FOUNDER OF A WEAPONS MANUFACTURER BACK HOME, I AM OFFICIALLY OFFERING MY SERVICES IN MAKING THE BEST F*CKING WEAPONS YOU WILL EVER SEE, EVER!
NOW, I'M AWARE THAT SOME OF YOU HAVE ROCKET LAUNCHERS THAT LAUNCH ROCKETS IN YOUR ARSENAL. I SAY F*CK THAT, YOU GUYS AREN'T THINKING AWESOME ENOUGH! FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS I'M GOING TO MAKE YOU ROCKET LAUNCHERS THAT LAUNCH...WAIT FOR IT...
...MORE ROCKET LAUNCHERS!! AND THEN THOSE SHOOT THE ROCKETS FOR YOU!! HEEEEELL YEAH!! JUST YOU WAIT, I'M GOING TO MATRUSHKA THIS SH*T AND IT WILL BE AWESOOOOOOME!!
Nightmare
[...How the hell does a man like Mister Torgue have a Nightmare?...well, apparently, he can. And its...silent. Silent.
Unnervingly so. There's what looks like a stadium, surrounded by a deserted town, and a hot wind blowing. And a small old man dressed in a business suit, walking around and inspecting things. As he does so, giant vegetable mutants and dud dynamite sticks on legs, slowly rise up from the ground.
Quietly. They're like ninjas as they suddenly disappear from sight once magi approach them. This isn't going to be too fun, is it?]

Ringo Akai | Ookami-san and the Seven Companions
[ It appears that Nyoi-cho has gained a second red hooded magical girl recently... Or is she a native? It's hard to tell even though at first glance she stands out among the more standard dress of the locals, but this little red haired girl is taking a stroll through the park, holding a polite conversation with anyone she crosses paths with. Such a pleasant smile on her face, as well! ]
Ah, hello! It's such a nice day out, don't you think? [ smile ] Have you seen a cute little white cat around?
A Day in the Life
[ Magi or not, Ringo must keep up with her studies! She's focused on the teacher's lecture during class, but now... it's lunch time! Lunch always tastes better with company, which is why she's sought you out, holding onto her bento box with a delicate hand. Maybe you've fought alongside her in a nightmare, or maybe you haven't, but she's found you for a reason. ]
Ah, excuse me... Would you mind if I ate with you? I'm new around here, and I'd like to get to know as many other Magi as I can.
[ Yeah. She knows you're a Magi, either way. ]

Kazuko Saotome // Puella Magi Madoka Magica
OK So...maybe she had drank a bit too much last night...but this was the first time that Kazuko had ever wound up in an unfamiliar city before as a result of her drinking.
"I'm going to have to call the school and let them know I'm taking a sick day..." She moaned trudging down an unfamiliar street in her usual teachers attire. A businesslike skirt and jacket which were...decidedly rumpled after another night out with her long time friend and partner in crime Junko Kaname.
"I'm sure he'll want to give me such a lecture too. "You're so irresponsible Miss Saotome!" She mimicked the huffy voice of the Principal of her school. "What sort of an example are you setting for your students? Word gets around you know? And it is unbecoming of a woman to drink so much."
She hung her head instinctively apologizing "Yes sir, I'm sorry sir..."
...
A cold wind blew over her as she realized she had just apologized to an imaginary lecture from her boss who wasn't even there.
With a groan she continued her walk and looked around making a more earnest attempt to find a pay phone, or at least a business that might let her borrow their phone. Still completely unaware of just how serious her situation had become.
_______________________________________
[ Night classes]
OK so...magical girl. She could do this! There were girls half her age...ok more then half her age who were doing this. She could do this right?
[ Reaching for her soul gem which was a lovely emerald ring on her finger she tried to remember how she had transformed the first time. A feeling...a need for strength. The kind of strength real women possessed! In that moment she remembered her wish.
"I wish for friends. Friends who won't dislike me."
...it sounded much better then her original wish for a husband. She had felt so lonely that night after Junko had gone home. The sound of wind chimes filled her ears as feathers swirled around her transforming her boring teachers clothes into something beautiful and bright. Lacy stockings with more feather patterns in them, matching gloves that traced all the way up to her elbows and felt so elegant. Gold thigh high boots that made her feel like she had the world at her feet. All topped by a green and purple dress that reminded her of the peacocks she'd seen during many class field trips to the zoo.
The Magical Teacher, beloved by all! Kazuko Saotome was ready to teach some nightmares a lesson!
...
...just as soon as someone showed her how.
"Um pardon me could you perhaps help me? This is my first night..."
Well if you didn't ask questions you didn't learn...right?

Adrien Agreste/Cat Noir | Miraculous Ladybug
[Ever since meeting Plagg and transforming into Cat Noir, Adrien has adjusted to the weird enemies that he's had to fight and circumstances. It was almost liberating to go out and about as Cat Noir when there was so much expected of you normally. Arriving in Nyoi-Cho wasn't something he had in mind... In fact, he'd assumed it had to be because of the doing on an akuma or Hawk Moth or something. Seeing a creature like Kyuubey was a bit strange, but was that cat thing for real?
Well, here he was regardless. He was actually just speaking hypothetically when he'd wished for preventing any future akumas. He didn't actually think that he'd really be taken to this.... Nyoi-cho? Well... this was certainly.... strange... These people are really strange too...]
Plagg? Are you here?
[Sigh...] I guess I'm going to have to find some camembert...
[ A day in the life]
[So people may have seen this former model wandering around as he was getting his bearings, but suddenly there's a masked hero with cat ears and a belt tail going around Nyoi-cho. So any possible trouble and you'll fly this cat boy vaulting in with his extendable baton.]
Woah, buddy! You may want to paws what you're doing and think about your life choices. I'd hate to ruin your fun.
[Or maybe he's just doing small stuff like saving cats from trees. Feel free to catch him around wherever.]

Bill Cipher | Gravity Falls
[There you are, just going about your day in Nyoi-cho, yucking it up and doing what you do when you notice the new weird window ornament one of the townspeople have put up. It’s nothing super special at first, but weird enough, just out of norm enough, to catch your attention and make you look back at it. It’s a weird thing, a small golden triangle with a single eye, a top hat, and a cane, sitting doll-like on the windowsill. Weird, but you think to turn and leave after a moment of looking at it.
And then comes the voice.]
Hey, hey buddy, over here!
[And then you turn around, and there’s the little golden triangle, still sitting on the windowsill, waving it’s little stick arm and snapping its fingers to get your attention.]
Aaaalright! You’re the first one of these meatbags to actually pay attention to me! I’ll tell ya the folks here wouldn’t notice if the ground just open up and finally started to eat everyone like it’s been planning to do for the last three hundred years. You’d think it’d just get on with it but I guess it wants to let it’s food age. Me, I’m not that patient a guy. I’m more ready to start making eyes explode in their sockets, considering no one’s using them.
But hey, I wouldn’t blow your eyes up! We only just met!
[And then the little triangle man extends his hand to you.]
Hey there kid I’m Bill! Bill Cipher, you’re future ruler at your service!
Nightmare
[Even demons, even eldritch horrors, can become tired. Can become distraught and worn down by the world. Even Bill as…obnoxious as he is, can be worn down.
Even though no one likes the little son of a bitch, the fact that he hasn’t been out of his house for days and the nightmare aura that has grown around it probably makes exploration a good idea. And when those who do decide to brave the nightmare enter it, they find a horror beyond belief
Stretching before them are cubicles. Just rows and rows of cubicles filled with men named Mark as they do their paper work. As they fight with the coffee maker in the backroom at the back, a back that surely you will never make it to. As their voices ring out horrifically, telling jokes about the news around the water cooler as they cackle infernally
Truly, this is hell just as only a demon could be terrified of.]
