APRIL TEST DRIVE
![]() Prompts Arrival: So you've just arrived in Nyoi-Cho. Congratulations! You must be so excited about having your wish granted. Or maybe you're upset that the result wasn't quite what you expected? If that's the case, then that's too bad! There are no take backs and no redoes, so you're stuck with what you have. Maybe you should have been more careful about how you worded that wish... There's no use in dwelling on it. You're a magi now, and that means adjusting to a whole new lifestyle. Get ready to hit the ground running. Home Improvement: The houses that the magi are given access to really are something, aren't they? There's almost no limit to what they can do! Why don't you create the house of your dreams, or maybe recreate and relive your favorite childhood scenes? Invite some spectators over to marvel. Practice makes Perfect: This magi stuff sure looked easier on TV. You don't understand your power and it's frustrating trying to use it in combat when you don't get it. Maybe it's time to just take some time to figure this out. Good thing none of the citizens can see you when you transform! Test out those new skills, cause a little mischief, or be the helping hand someone might need! Fighting Evil by Moonlight: Things aren't as easy as they looked on TV. Nightmares are tough and there's real danger in there. There are victories... but, some are not as clear cut as others. Is today a successful attempt, or are you on your last legs standing up against an enemy far stronger than yourself? Do you forge on ahead, or do you retreat? A Corrupted Soul Gem: You neglected to take care of your soul gem, and now you don't feel quite yourself anymore. You feel like you're losing your sense of self - all you seem to be able to focus on is your old regrets and past failures. What's happening to you? A Dreadful Nightmare: You're wearing yourself down with all this fighting. Your mind is rife with insecurity and fear. As you drift off to sleep, your mind dwells on all the injustices you've had to endure. In response, your bed swallows you up, and your room shifts into a horrific Nightmarescape. What sort of Nightmare are you? What kind of Nightmarescape do you create? Hopefully your fellow magi can stop you before you hurt someone. Birth of a Witch: You've just learned the terrible truth behind Witches, and it's staring you in the face - someone very close to you has succumbed to despair. In a burst of flame, their corrupted soul gem rearranges itself into a grief seed, completing their transformation. Can you continue to fight on, knowing that this is the ultimate fate of all magi? Moreover, can you bring yourself to raise your weapon against a dear comrade whom you have been fighting alongside for so long? Unending Night: Carrying out a magi's duties has never been easy. Although up until now you've successfully navigated your way through countless nightmarescapes and defeated countless foes, this time you might finally be outmatched. Foe after foe stands before you. There's no end in sight. And with each attack you throw their way, your soul gem seems to grow ever dimmer... A Cruel Choice: The Witch has fallen, and you've been awarded a grief seed for your valiant efforts. Just in time, too! Your soul gem is in desperate need of cleansing. But as you look around you, you realize that you're not the only one whose soul gem is in bad shape. There's absolutely no way you can take care of more than one soul gem with just one grief seed. What will you do? In Fugue: Someone very dear to you has been acting off lately. They spend just a little too much time with the natives of Nyoi-cho, and they seem to resemble themselves less with each passing day. They even seem to be forgetting bits and pieces of their own past, and simple questions on your part lead to them spitting out the same eerie pre-programmed responses that you've grown so accustomed to hearing from the locals. It's clear that they're being assimilated into the town. You wonder how long it'll be before they cease to recognize you completely and the person you once knew them as simply no longer exists. Isn't there a way to slow down or reverse the process at all? Wildcard: Feel free to use any information from the FAQ or the World Info page to make your own prompt! |

[Sigh. And wait a second, shoes? What are those?] I didn't really have any before I came here, either.

[ ann's been here for a while, so she's kind of used to people coming from different worlds--which isn't as surprising as it should be due to the whole persona verse. good thing she's a fire user! ]
Okay, watch this!
[ she opens up her palm, and a small little flame ignites in her hand. it burns softly and ann looks at ariel with a little smile. ]
Careful not to touch it, okay? It's really hot and it can seriously hurt you.
no subject
[She watches the fire flicker and it's... amazing, really. It looks alive, somehow, even if it's really small and held in the palm of your hand. She can't help reaching out a little, though she stops before actually touching it]
It doesn't hurt you? [Maybe it's because she's the one making it?] But it really is beautiful. [It's different from the sort she thinks she saw on that ship, when the lightning struck it. She wonders how many different kinds of fires there are.]
no subject
Nope! It's my power. It'll hurt anyone else, though.
[ ah, this poor girl...ann looks at her shopping bag, then back at ariel. ]
Aaand...I think you really need some shoes. They, uh, protect your feet, if you didn't know.
no subject
[She looks down on her feet, and she still can feel sharp pins and needles stinging from all the moving around earlier.] I guess they couldn't hurt, huh. [Hmm.] Do you know where can I find some? [Ariel doesn't know what capitalism is, either.]
no subject
[ yeah, she definitely needs shoes. ] There's a clothing store in the area that sells shoes. I'll show you how to get there and help you find your shoe size, okay?
no subject
[It's not everything she's ever imagined it to be or anything, but it turns out the grass is greener when you're actually standing on the grass.]
So shoes are... another kind of clothing, right? [See, she's learning. But she follows along with her new friend, even though it hurts when she walks and everything. It's worth it.]

[ ann's wish, while it came true, brought here here. into a hell pit. there's just so much crap going on and this--talking to ariel--is a nice break from all of that. she looks sad for a moment, but then shakes it off and goes back to the shoes topic: ]
Oh, yeah! For your feet! They can be plain and simple, or stylish!
[ good thing the walk isn't so bad! in fact it's only a few moments before they wind up at the clothing store ann had just visited. ]
Here we are. You can do the honors and go in first.
no subject
[Ariel doesn't really know any better, but when Ann changes the subject, Ariel goes with it.]
I didn't think there would be so many choices for what to wear. [Down below, you only really had stuff you could put in your hair. So many new options!
And so when she walks into the store, Ariel sort of freezes up for a second.]
Humans can wear all of these things? [It just sort of slips out. And then she's moving again, looking around the store and grinning just about as wide as she can.
There's tops with all sorts of decorations on them, some are frilly and some are plain and some are light and some are heavy and all of them are different colors. Then there's bottoms, and some have a slit in the middle so each foot must go on a different side, and some don't, so she guesses both have to fit together somehow? And then-- then she sees the shoes.
Wow, there's a lot of different kinds of shoes.]
Are there different names, or do you call all of these shoes?
no subject
[ ariel definitely looks super excited about human clothes? ann kind of thinks it's weird but she's not going to say that to her face or anything like that. don't rain on her poor parade when there's not much joy in this place to begin with. she's gonna hate crushing this girl's spirit. ]
So, you see the ones with the straps? Those are called sandals, and the ones with only one over there are called flip-flops--
[ alright, this is getting ridiculous. before ann can go on, she folds her arms across her chest and looks over at ariel with a raised eyebrow. ]
Okay, you sure look human to me. Obviously you're either from a nudist colony, or...you're not really human at all. So what are you?
no subject
You're probably not gonna believe this, but... [Almost under her breath, here goes nothing.] I, uh. I used to be a mermaid. [Until, like, an hour ago.]
no subject
STILL THOUGH. ]
A--A mermaid?!
[ WHOA. ] Don't tell me...your wish was to become human?!
no subject
I guess it's not very original, huh? [Not that she'd know any better. Or: got it in one.]
no subject
[ not like ann would know, since mermaids are just..creatures in folklore. well. up until now. ]

[ new, different, exciting...
ann grabs a shoe sizer and slides it across the floor, by ariel's feet. ]
Okay, put your left foot in here and I'll tell you what your shoe size is.
no subject
[Once the sizing gets done (and it's a little odd, with the whole squeezing thing), she starts looking around at the sandals (and boots, and heels, and flip flops, and-- well, you get the idea!), trying to decide between them.]
Now, how am I supposed to pick... [She's thinking, she's thinking.]
no subject
Try to pick something that doesn't cost too much, okay? I'll pay for it, but I don't have too much cash on me right now.
no subject
[Okay, so the ones with... less numbers are... less expensive, right, okay, that makes sense. She finds some cute looking strappy sandals that look like they fit the bill.]
no subject
Great choice! I think they'll look cute on you.
[ she takes the sandals, goes over to the register and pays for them. ann requests that the tag as well as any other packaging materials are taken off so ariel will be able to wear them immediately. once everything looks good, ann holds out the sandals to the redhead. ]
Here you go!
