If that's the case, then that's too bad! There are no take backs and no redoes, so you're stuck with what you have! Maybe you should have been more careful about how you worded that wish... Oh well. There's no use in dwelling on it. You're a magi now, and that means adjusting to a whole new lifestyle! Maybe one of the townspeople can help you out. Only... they're acting a bit strangely, aren't they? They're all too happy to show you around, but there's something unsettling about the way they're behaving. Almost cheerfully dissonant. Any questions about the history of the town are met with blank stares and brief silence, before they plaster a smile onto their faces and change the subject. Any attempts to tell them about your duties as a magi or anything else that relates to the magical will get similar reactions. Isn't there anyone normal here that you can talk to at all? Home Improvement: The houses that the magi are given access to really are something, aren't they? There's almost no limit to what they can do! Why don't you create the house of your dreams, or maybe recreate and relive your favorite childhood scenes? Invite some spectators over to marvel! A Corrupted Soul Gem: You neglected to take care of your soul gem, and now you don't feel quite yourself anymore. As you drift off to sleep, your mind dwells on all the injustices you've had to endure. In response, your bed swallows you up, and your room shifts into a horrific Nightmarescape. You...you realize you're not going to be going back for awhile, right? So even if you now have the power...

[The worst part is that if Saitama did show up, there's a 9 in 10 chance he's wished he wasn't strong anymore, so Sonic will have completely wasted his wish. It's going to be a trainwreck if that ever happens.]

I can wait! Fighting the Nightmares will be no different than training to defeat him, anyway! I just have to defeat enough of them before I can return, right? So I'll start fighting them, and I won't stop fighting them until I've killed enough to go home. I'll destroy every one of them if I have to. Whatever it takes to defeat Saitama, I'll do it!

Have...you actually fought any of the Nightmares before?

Well, no, but it can't be that different from the monsters back home, can it? Last week I killed someone who was so obsessed with counting things, he became some sort of... evil accountant monster, I guess. [he shrugs] I don't actually pay attention to whatever it is they ramble on about, it's usually something stupid.

Actually, Nightmares, especially stronger ones, are capable of making people do things they wouldn't normally do. Even put an entire town to sleep until they're beaten...

[he frowns, but shrugs it off] I will handle it when the time comes. I assume that the magi are not as susceptible to their will as the normal townsfolk, right? Or what would be the point of this if we were to succumb just as easily as anyone else. In either case, I remain confident in my training as a ninja and my experience with monsters. Saitama is the only person to ever challenge me, and if I truly possess the power to defeat him, then these Nightmares should pose no threat.

Well, the really strong Nightmares can influence even magi into acting differently, so its not easy, even for really experienced warriors.

[She remembers how Lady Maria was injured, how Garviel was injured, and those two are super-experienced.]

[This is so annoying. A fucking twelve year old is questioning his ability to fight monsters. Oh how far he has fallen! He's blaming Saitama for this - If he hadn't made that stupid wish, she wouldn't have any reason to doubt his strength.]

I acknowledge your concerns, but I believe the nature of my wish has mislead you, little girl, but make no mistake, I am no one to be trifled with. [he puts his hands on his hips, puffing out his chest and throwing back his head proudly] I am Speed of Sound Sonic, the Ultimate Modern Ninja! I do not fear these "Nightmares," regardless of their abilities. I already know the face of the worst monster of them all, and I have been granted the power to defeat him. Even if they do possess the power to affect my thinking, they are nothing compared to Saitama.

[F-fourteen, actually. Honestly, she's just concerned he'll rush in and get hurt underestimating what's in store, really!]

Why is Saitama worse than the Nightmares? Does he feed on negative emotions, too?

[Oh, he will, but it won't be the first time, and it certainly won't be the last.]

No, but- [How does he even begin to describe the problem that's Saitama without making himself look pathetic? He cover his face with his hand, gritting his teeth as his ears go red. This is ridiculous. Some day, he's going to kill Saitama and he finally won't have to deal with these horrible feelings anymore.] Saitama's not evil, he's a Hero, but he's more powerful than anything you have ever encountered before. If he were here, he would dispatch even the worst of the Nightmares without batting an eye. I've fought him twice, and he defeated me as easily as swatting a fly.

If he's a hero, then why are you fighting him? Are...you saying you're a villain?

Absolutely not! [he scoffs, waving a hand dismissively] I'm a mercenary, I don't care one bit about the strict dichotomy of good vs evil that plagues society today. It completely reduces every choice down black and white when in reality there's a full spectrum of options to consider. I fight Saitama because I want to, pure and simple. Because he is an insurmountable challenge that I've never encountered before, and because I know I could never be happy simply walking away from him. I was languishing before I met him; I had no goal, no purpose in life, and I was dissatisfied.

[he sighs, looking away] His power terrifies me, and I can't shake the feeling that I'll be good enough to challenge him, but... I don't want to go back to doing jobs that leave me feeling bored and under-stimulated.

Well, you won't be bored? The Nightmares come every night, at least...

[She takes in a breath.]

In all honesty...right now, beating Saitama...its not really the most important thing right now. The most important thing is stopping the Nightmares. It won't be an overnight thing, I've already been here several months.

[Madoka you are the most precious and accepting thing to just be dealing Sonic's ridiculousness with the grace and kindness that you are. The world doesn't deserve you. He doesn't deserve you. He's just going to continue to be a huffy sourpuss]

It's not like I can fight him now anyway, since he's not here, and I can't go home until I've fulfilled my end of the contract. [he pouts, putting his hands on his hips] I may not care all that much about this place, but I never go renege on a contract, and I never let a single target escape.

[He gives her a bit of a smirk] Don't worry. Now that I'm here, the battle against the Nightmares will go much more smoothly.
