There's no use in dwelling on it. You're a magi now, and that means adjusting to a whole new lifestyle! Maybe one of the townspeople can help you out. Only... they're acting a bit strangely, aren't they? They're all too happy to show you around, but there's something unsettling about the way they're behaving. Almost cheerfully dissonant. Any questions about the history of the town are met with blank stares and brief silence, before they plaster a smile onto their faces and change the subject. Any attempts to tell them about your duties as a magi or anything else that relates to the magical will get similar reactions. Isn't there anyone normal here that you can talk to at all? Home Improvement: The houses that the magi are given access to really are something, aren't they? There's almost no limit to what they can do! Why don't you create the house of your dreams, or maybe recreate and relive your favorite childhood scenes? Invite some spectators over to marvel! As you drift off to sleep, your mind dwells on all the injustices you've had to endure. In response, your bed swallows you up, and your room shifts into a horrific Nightmarescape. That might be impossible. The poor things are entirely feral. I would move the sun and moon for a beautiful lady, [not that one is around right now] but this task is beyond even me.

... Why are you so interested in birds?

I have certain vested interests with the avian species. [That was hopefully vague enough.]

You're being weird. I haven't seen anybody try to train wild pigeons before.

At you? Or for people training wild birds?

I meant the second but should I be worried about the first? I mean, I've always had a few adoring male fans, but...

Wow, I see you're the type to bluntly shoot people down. That's admirable, it its own way.

It's better to be direct. The less misunderstandings the better.[Unless it's a misunderstanding in his favor then they're fine.]

It is strange. Are you going to keep trying this?

Probably not.

There's really nothing for me to get out of it, after all. Even if they were to learn a few tricks, we'd hardly see any of them become nationally-recognized mathematicians or world-renown pathologists.

Oh, I'm hardly a scientist. [he is a bird, tho] Anyways, yes, in the world I came from we had plenty of prestigious birds.

Nationally-recognized mathematician birds? There's a world like that? Were there humans there or was it just birds?

[salutations]

Before today I couldn't have imagined a different world. There are still humans, just far fewer than birds.

Most have been wiped out, either by disease or war.

[wounds]

You world sounds strange, but that's probably because I've never experienced it myself.

What kind of disease was it, that it wiped out such a huge majority?

[salutations]

Sumatran Influenza- a bird flu, if you would. Humanity ended up pushed to the brink of extinction. [yet, he seems entirely calm about it, like reciting facts from the history books]

You don't seem worried about it. Were... Are you immune?

[salutations]

It was a bit before my time. I was hatched long after that initial pandemic, so I can't say I ever worried about that. The birds trying to say we can't coexist are far more worrying, I'd say!
