Arrival: So you've just arrived in Nyoi-Cho. Congratulations! You must be so excited about having your wish granted. Or maybe you're upset that the result wasn't quite what you expected? If that's the case, then that's too bad! There are no take backs and no redoes, so you're stuck with what you have! Maybe you should have been more careful about how you worded that wish...

Oh well. There's no use in dwelling on it. You're a magi now, and that means adjusting to a whole new lifestyle! Maybe one of the townspeople can help you out.

Only... they're acting a bit strangely, aren't they? They're all too happy to show you around, but there's something unsettling about the way they're behaving. Almost cheerfully dissonant. Any questions about the history of the town are met with blank stares and brief silence, before they plaster a smile onto their faces and change the subject. Any attempts to tell them about your duties as a magi or anything else that relates to the magical will get similar reactions.

Isn't there anyone normal here that you can talk to at all?

Home Improvement: The houses that the magi are given access to really are something, aren't they? There's almost no limit to what they can do! Why don't you create the house of your dreams, or maybe recreate and relive your favorite childhood scenes? Invite some spectators over to marvel!

A Day in the Life: Everyday hero by day, magician by night! You've got a busy day ahead of you and no time to waste! Maybe it's school, or maybe it's work, maybe it's both! Being magical doesn't make you exempt from paying those shopping bills!

Practice makes Perfect: This magi stuff sure looked easier on TV. You don't understand your power and it's frustrating trying to use it in combat when you don't get it. Maybe it's time to just take some time to figure this out. Good thing none of the citizens can see you when you transform! Test out those new skills, cause a little mischief, or be the helping hand someone might need!

Fighting Evil by Moonlight: Things aren't as easy as they looked on TV. Nightmares are tough and there's real danger in there. There are victories... but, some are not as clear cut as others. Is today a successful attempt, or are you on your last legs standing up against an enemy far stronger than yourself? Do you forge on ahead, or do you retreat?

A Corrupted Soul Gem: You neglected to take care of your soul gem, and now you don't feel quite yourself anymore. You feel like you're losing your sense of self - all you seem to be able to focus on is your old regrets and past failures. What's happening to you?

A Dreadful Nightmare: You had an absolutely horrid day. As you drift off to sleep, your mind dwells on all the injustices you've had to endure. In response, your bed swallows you up, and your room shifts into a horrific Nightmarescape. What sort of Nightmare are you? What kind of Nightmarescape do you create? Hopefully your fellow magi can stop you before you cause too much damage!

A Witch's Curse: A Nightmare is nothing in comparison to the horror of a Witch. Perhaps you've been bitten by her sweet kiss, now only able to see the futility in all you do. Perhaps you've just witnessed one of your most beloved friends succumbing to the darkness in their heart, forsaking their wish for a curse - or perhaps you have decided to do it yourself. One thing is for sure... there's no turning back now.

Wildcard: Feel free to use any information from the FAQ or the World Info page to make your own prompt!

A Day in the Life
(canonpoint: end of Chapter 13)

To be honest, it could be better.

No one ever said that the crown prince had any particular taste or skill in the fine art of architecture and interior decorating. In that respect, it was probably a good thing that the exterior was fixed and couldn't be changed - why anyone let him have control over the decal choices for the Regalia is anyone's guess. But nobody complained, so either the gang didn't want to object and offend their prince's tastes, or (obviously) they all had equally poor decorating taste. If any of the guy showed up here, they're bound to feel right at home.

If. Noctis thinks about that, a lot.

It's precisely why there's a fishing spot in his house. Just around the corner from the quaint, cozy living room reminiscent of a laidback apartment he'd once lived in during his school years despite the occasional bizarre colour pattern along the wall, the floor becomes wooden planks and leads directly to a small, indoor pond - complete with lilypads and tall grass. A frog even hops by every so often. Sometimes it breaks out into showtunes. But for the most part, it's where he goes to relax, to get his mind off of ... everything.

That doesn't always work. It's only been a few days, and everything had happened so quickly, that it was hard not to think about it. His friends were still fighting back there without him. His entire homeworld was being consumed by night, and the daemons were only growing stronger and in greater numbers. There's only so many times he can be told there's nothing he can do to go back, no matter how grave the danger is and how important it was that he be sent home, before he loses his temper and storms off back to his new home to sit at the edge of his indoor dock and sulk. And fish.

Suffice it to say, he fishes a lot.

The problem with indoor fishing is that ... well. It's indoors. Anytime he happens to catch a fish - like now, for example - it catches him off guard, and in his excitement to scramble to his feet and reel the fish in, he pulls a little too hard, and the line snaps, sending the fish flying out the open window. It always disappears (it's a frequent occurrence,) but he still hurries to make his way over to the window, and wave an apology at any potential passers by.

"H-Hey, uh, sorry! They're, uh ... slippery."

Noriaki Kakyoin was, admittedly, not often well known for either his patience or control of his temper. And while he usually managed to have a handle on both in a high-pressure situation like everything Nyoi-cho decided to be 24/7, there were some things one could not possibly prepare for.

Like a giant fish flying quite literally out of left field to smack him directly in the face before promptly disappearing into thin air. Clearly, he'd chosen the wrong house to walk a bit too close to today. The redhead staggered from the impact, glasses knocked off scarred eyes and clattering to the sidewalk as he tried to catch up with what on earth had just actually happened.

"What th--who the hell even thinks to throw a fish?!"

Even before Diarmuid's reflexes were heightened by battle and enhanced supernaturally, they were fast. This is fortunate, since the last thing he is expecting is to have a fish come flying at his head as he walks back from working at the dog cafe. Despite the supernatural enhancements to his reflexes being stripped away, he manages to catch the fish by the tail before it gracelessly slams into his head. In the seconds before it vanishes, he holds it up and gauges its size. The 'not bad' that is muttered under his breath goes basically unheard when a voice from the nearby house calls out an apology.

Fish now long gone, Diarmuid lets his empty hand fall back to his side as he makes his way over to the window with a grin, "Looks like you let the big one get away."

Oh dear god, Diarmuid? Really?

Fortunately, the new arrival is saved from more bad puns when Diarmuid's eyes catch sight of the fishing pool in the house behind him, "It's too bad the things our houses make vanish when they leave them. I bet the fish from that pond would taste great baked over the fire pit in my house."

A two letter word with so much possibilities. Something Prompto had been thinking about since slipped off the roof of the train and ended up in the life he should've been spared from. If Noctis and the others show up, will they save him? If they save him, will they forgive him for all he'd never told them? And if they did... what then?

Imagine his surprise when things went right for once. When the doors swung open and there they were, helping him out of his restraints and being real and reaffirming everything about him was real. If they could pull this off, if they could get the Crystal and if they could get out and back to Insomnia then everything was finally going to be a-okay.

But if is a pretty big word for just being two letters. If is a coinflip, there's a fifty per cent chance of getting what you want and being left in the dust... and if he's being honest, he thinks maybe all of the luck they needed to get back problem-free was wasted on his rescue. The world isn't so kind.

So of course when a little creature shows up offering a miracle, he takes it. He doesn't even think that hard, all he knows is they need to get Noctis back and the words come unbidden. The wish is granted, he can never go home - but the world he leaves behind is safe. Prompto staggers into the new one, confused, bruised, and more than a little lost.

That's about when a fish comes flying through the window and slaps him in the face, bowling him over. Any pretenses of sulky, serious, Noct-esque brooding are thrown aside as he splutters, grabbing for the fish but finding it gone before he can even process what it was or where it came from. ]

"W-what the hell, man!?" He pushes himself up, ready to shout because all this pent up aggression needs some kind of out - but he stops short, staring at the man in the window dumbly.

a | arrival (spoilers for chapter 37 of masamune-kun no revenge)

[The Koiwais prided themselves on excellent service; their role as the attendants of the Adagaki household had spanned multiple generations, and it was to the point where Yoshino had been raised from birth to become skilled in the task.

And yet, with one single thoughtless action, Yoshino had hurt the person she was supposed to look out for deeply. It was a mistake that she regretted terribly, filling her with a deep sense of guilt; so when the chance came to rectify it, she leapt for it immediately.

"I wish for Aki-sama and and Piggy to reconcile."

Just with that one sentence, she's whisked away to another world. A world without Aki-sama.

She stares down at the ground, sighing deeply.]

I wonder if things will really be okay like this...

[After all, regardless of the intentions behind the wish, she's essentially abandoned her duties.]

b | hunting

[A pitch-black, blob-like familiar wanders the streets of Nyoi-cho, carrying a piece of fruit in its hands. A few paces behind it, Yoshino can be seen, following it closely with a look of concentration on her face. In fact, she's so focused on that familiar that she doesn't notice you at all. When the familiar ducks under your legs, Yoshino blindly pursues it, crashing straight into you.

A look of mortification immediately comes onto her face.]

O-oh! I'm so sorry!

[While normally Sky might have been more aware of the familiar coming up from behind him he had been doing some following of his own. He only notices when the blob moves underneath him.

He's taken by surprise as he snaps his gaze downward, saber in hand, but unfortunately before he knows it something is crashing into him. He's caught off guard enough that he's knocked forward, but not wanting to get mauled by one of those familiars he's quick to get back to his feet. His weapon is raised but he keeps from attacking when he realizes there's no monstrosity behind him but instead a young girl. A mortified young girl.]

Er [words eventually find him along with a sheepish chuckle and a warm smile.] Could have been worse. Are you alright?

[ In general, Jughead had been treating these little excursions like he had been given a quest in a video game. It'd be easier if he had some kind of marker, but instead he's being forced to keep an eye out on the gem the little cat-looking guide gave him.

Not that he's paying too much attention. That's why he completely misses the familiar until it passes through his legs, glancing back at it looking kind of dumbfounded. His reaction time's off the mark, and Yoshino smacks right into him, sending him right onto the ground.

Jughead sits up, rubbing at the back of his head and blearily blinking a few times. ]

I'm awake, I'm awake-- [ It takes him a moment before he focuses on the girl in front of him, startled and apologetic. At first, he's a little tense. Familiars or whatever here could take the form of little girls, he doesn't know. But then again, that blob passed by without so much as attacking him. ] Uh... don't worry about it. I get the feeling I'm not who you're targeting. Maybe?

[ Probably? ]

[She shakes her head vigorously when he says, "I get the feeling I'm not who you're targeting," then follows it up with a few nods. It's a bizarre, probably confusing reaction; one meant to convey, "No, you're not the one I'm targeting. You're right." It would probably have been easier to just use her words - there's less room for misunderstanding with those, after all - but what can she say? She's not particularly good with situations like this.]

[She points behind him to the familiar, quickly in the process of scurrying away. "That's what I'm after."]

[She nods. She's about to breathe a sigh of relief at the fact that the person she'd bumped into her appears to be friendly, but then she catches sight of his summoned weapon.]

Um, could you maybe be...

[Assassin. Yakuza. Serial killer.

No, it would be foolish to immediately jump to the worst-case scenarios, wouldn't it? Instead, maybe this person is...]

...a magi?

[ Shaking her head, which means that he's not who she's targeting... or, nodding, which means that actually he is? It sure as heck was confusing, and it took him a moment to understand once she points behind him. ]

[ There it goes. He slowly gets back up to his feet, looks back to the mystery girl, then at the familiar. ]

Weeell, it just so happens that I've been looking for the same thing. You think if we get rid of it together, that'll count as me doing my civic duty as a magi for the night?

[ As a. Ridiculously roundabout way of asking if she needs help. ]

[Sky lowers his weapon and lets his guard down a bit, not wanting to seem threatening. But he's still very aware that a familiar literally just passed through here and decides to keep focused on his surroundings.

Still, he gives a nod of his head when the question is asked. Ah, that makes sense. The locals didn't seem to notice him when he was transformed, did they? So this young lady must be a Magi as well.]

Yes, that's right. And judging by the way you seemed to be relentlessly in pursuit of that...thing, I'm going to assume you're a magi as well.

[She seems to ponder this for a moment, but she doesn't answer in the affirmative.

It's not because she doesn't want his help; truth be told, she would feel more reassured if he were to come along. It's just that her goal was never to kill that familiar in the first place.]

I'd heard that familiars don't clean your gem.

[ He could've sworn that just defeating the familiars would restore your energy... or was that Dragoncide? Man, reality and fiction mixing was rough. When he thought about it, he didn't exactly have the best plan in place to take any of them out in the first place. Didn't have too much time checking out the ol' magic reserves. ]

[Hunting came naturally to Haruka.

Truth be told, this was...well, different was a bit too simple a word to explain the discrepancy between this and her usual prey. She supposes there should be some relief, some kind of feeling that killing Nightmares was so different from killing people, but really, there wasn't. At best, the difference was somewhat curious to her, a small amusement at the back of her mind.

Even if she had become more averse to her usual hunting-stalking, to the demands of her being once her memories - Haruka's memories - had become so much more firmly entrenched in her, it was still easy to fall into the most basic needs and mindset of herself. The familiars were amusements. Certainly, they were more dangerous than most of the humans Haruka had hunted, but then again Haruka hardly amused herself by hunting the most dangerous of people. The perverted, the disgusting, the trash of society. Most times once it was clear she was dangerous they'd run from her, but she was usually upon them by then. Sometimes they'd flail, try to push her back. Occasionally they'd be armed with something like a bat or a pipe or a knife, but even that mattered very little to her, and how unprepared to use their weapon they usually were.

She was a hunter by nature.

Following the little blob was a slower task than hunting people were, though. It was a necessity though, to have to catch the thing off guard. It was almost a mercy that this place had granted her her teeth as a weapon at least. Preferable if she still possessed her actual strength, her ability to rip and tear and eat, but if all she was to be given was her teeth, well. That was a start. The body was still too weak to be aggressive aside from the most dire of situations, though. So trying to sneak up on the thing, grab it, and bite it apart was her best course of action.

And then it turned out she wasn't the only one stalking it. Haruka wondered if the other girl was even aware of the fact Haruka was in front of her, so much so that she doesn't bother to try and grab the familiar as it darts under her. She gets pushed back softly as Yoshino runs into her, already expecting it from the girl.

And just smiles at Yoshino as she tries to apologize. Pleasantly. Pleasant is always best, at least at first.]

They can be tricky sometimes, can't they?
myapology: (i don't even know the reason)

[personal profile] myapology 2017-02-12 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods, breaking into a run so that she can catch up with the familiar before it can duck out of sight.

It doesn't take long for something to happen, though; she's barely taken three steps before the space around them is warping into that of a nightmarescape. A thin, narrow trail of ink stretches out before them, laying out a path. Above, sights that belong in a child's crayon drawing can be seen. Scribbly curved lines form into the shape of birds, flying overhead with a cartoonish imitation of a caw.

Yoshino looks back in Jughead's direction, as if to look for a gauge on what she should do.]
myapology: (until the day you call my name)

[personal profile] myapology 2017-02-12 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Strange as it probably would sound to say, nervousness revealed a lot about a person. Yoshino wouldn't go as far as to call it an inherently trustworthy reaction in someone, but there was nonetheless a disarming quality to it. That was the reason she turned so often to nervousness herself; the reason she played the part of the small, trembling animal when she was trying to lull the other party into a false sense of security.

It's also because of that reason that Yoshino immediately feels a sense of unease from the situation she's found herself in. The girl she'd bumped into - the one talking to her now - was pleasant; the picture of calmness. For most, that would be reason to be put at ease. But for Yoshino's part, all she can think is the way there seemed to be no moment in which this person was even slightly taken aback.

It isn't proof of anything conclusive, of course. Not evidence that would ever be permissible on a court of law. But for Yoshino, it evoked the image of possibilities to her that gave her reason to be on-guard.

Well, it never did hurt to be careful when meeting a stranger.]

[ Whoop, running then. And then, suddenly, everything goes weird.

Everything looks to be fairly crude and badly drawn, and Jughead feels like he's walked directly into a coloring book. Or a really, badly animated cartoon by the looks of those birds. When she looks back at him, he throws up his hands. ]

Don't look at me. I didn't pack any erasers.

[ Shrug? He barely even knew what his magic did. Jughead cautiously stepped forward, hands in his pockets. ]

Ah, I see. Well, I'm new here as well. Maybe it would be easier if we both went after it. Safety in numbers, as they say.

[Read: he's a little concerned.]

[Well, he seems calm about this, at least. Calm enough to be cracking jokes.

That's good.]

If they did, it might serve as good camouflage in a place like this.

[What better way to blend in in a shoddily-drawn crayon world than to look like a shoddily-drawn crayon scribbling yourself?

Yoshino takes a few steps forward, as if testing the waters, but as bizarre as their surroundings are, it doesn't seem as if anything within is hostile. For the time being, anyway. Some of the birds have definitely taken notice of their arrival, as can be noticed by the way they're beginning to land on nearby tree branches to gawk at the newcomers, but that's as far as anything has done so far. Maybe camouflage would be unnecessary.]

Apparently, the people around here just didn't understand how difficult it was to fish indoors.

"I didn't throw it."

Noctis felt his response was accurate enough - technically, the fish wasn't thrown. Not on purpose. At most, he could be blamed for accidentally leaving the window open and giving the fish the opportunity to go sailing out of it to the great outdoors just once before unfortunately disappearing. But since he didn't throw the fish, the prince holds his ground, hands on his hips as the stranger outside cusses at him.

"I was catching it. And it got away."

Well. That's impressive.

At least the guy caught it. It's far less embarrassing that way, and Noctis doesn't have to feel too bad about letting the bastard fish get away like that. It's still troublesome, of course, and not exactly the best first impression to make among the neighbours (something he hasn't exactly been very good at throughout his lifetime anyway,) but the stranger outside seems like he's in good spirits about it.

That's good, at least. Easier to have casual conversations with someone who wasn't yelling at you for throwing fish around.

"Yeah, not for a lack of trying, though." Noctis leans against his windowsil and props his chin in his hand, trying to keep things friendly even though random flying fish is still a thing that happened. "Can't tease a guy like that, though. Fire pit fish sounds amazing and I have no way to bring all this fish over."

Diarmuid has only ever been fish slapped once in his life and that was because he let his best friend, Oscar, do it. Yes, he let him do it. That is his story and he's sticking to it.

Confident another fish isn't about to come flying at him because of his terrible sense of humor, Diarmuid offers his hand for a shake. Most people just gets confused when he tries bowing to them, "It is a travesty, isn't it? We need to work this out somehow. Our houses can change when we think about it. Ever think of 'remodeling' your kitchen?"

They could just go and buy some fish at the store then take it to Diarmuid's place to cook, but where's the fun in that?

Hey, maybe that'll happen anyway. The longer we stay in here, we'll turn into doodles.

[ He just says matter-of-factly. He's not in a situation he'd consider scary just yet: after all, this doesn't look like it'd be considered a massive undertaking in the first place. It should be a some place crawling with enemies to smack around, followed by the world ending final boss.

Still, no complaints here as he looks up at the birds and whistles a bit. There's less effort to start out on Easy to learn the controls, and other such metaphors. After a few seconds of looking back at those birds, he shakes his head. ]

Friendly. At least until we make noise. Don't suppose whatever magic you got's quiet, is it?
