Kyouko Irisu | Irisu Syndrome

[Arrival]

[She remembers having a grand old time with her friends during their camping trip. Though Irisu remembers feeling exhausted, exerting herself far more than she ever had socially, she's certain she found happiness. And after such a long time too. It's a shame that abruptly ended after opening her eyes, she's standing on the sidewalk of a city she hardly remembers ever being in. In her red, striped dress and gray scarf.

In spite of her recent, personal victories, Irisu couldn't bring herself to so much as ask for help no matter how curiously friendly everyone around her seemed. Instead, she avoids them, distrusting... something about them, resolving to figure matters out on her own. Though as she does so, she appears more like a lost, afraid child wandering the streets than a girl in her late teens.

After dialing the numbers she knows at the telephone booth to no avail, Irisu sits at a bus stop bench, hands over her eyes, wishing she could go back home to all of her new friends.

To him, especially.

Strange, though. She made a wish a little while ago. What was it? "I want to forget ________"? Forget what? Though, if she already forgot, there's no way the thought would come back to her just like that. ... Ah. She wishes she was back home.]

[A Successful Mission]

[Summoning all the magic she has into her hammer, the mallet grows to a ludicrous size. At the very end, spikes jut out from all directions and Irisu swings it down on the Witch, piercing it and burying it deep into the ground.

... She did it. As the hammer shrinks back to its normal size, Irisu marvels at her victory. It took everything that she had inside of her, but much to her own surprise, she prevailed. The bunny ear of her spiral hat twitches.

And for once, basking in her own accomplishment at helping save the city, lots of people, she smiles. It's a soft, awkward smile, but a genuine one regardless.]

I... I didn't know I had it in me.

[Slightly overkill, but hey, at least the normally gloomy girl is happy.]

[Corrupted Soul Gem]

[... Ah. That's right.

Through circumstances, Irisu came face to face with the truth. It undid the magic of her wish, forcing her to remember exactly what happened on that island before she arrived here. She went through with her "plan" and killed them all with her own hands.

Edogawa. Ageha. Then, finally, Uuji.

Her soul gem starts to overflow with intense negativity. She no longer cares about removing it. What's the use? She could never take back what she did and like a coward, she used up her wish just to forget about it.

If she brought them back alive, they'd see her for what she really was.

No. Was that all she wanted to forget? There was something else. But either way, this experience taught her something very important.

As the shadow from the brim of her witch's hat covers her face, her eyes turn into red voids.]

I should've known. For someone like me, happiness will always be sealed away with a million locks and a million doors. Being happy isn't why I was born. This truth can't be any clearer in my mind.

[Irisu starts coughing, violently. As it subsides, she continues.]

... Nothing I've done is worth forgiving. And yet, if I could do it all over again...? I just might... Because that's who I am, at the core of my soul.

I've had it. I'm through with this world. You, me, everyone... We should all just disappear.
